The soul of a god rests within you. You defeated Brine King in frozen realm, and now his essence empowers character. When you would be stunned, his power reacts, granting temporary immunity. This is Pantheon system of Path of Exile, layer of character power earned by slaying gods of Wraeclast. It transforms campaign bosses into permanent upgrades, defeat granting abilities persisting across entire account.

Pantheon divides into two tiers. Major gods, captured from act bosses, grant powerful defensive abilities. Brine King prevents chain stunning. Arakaali improves recovery from damage over time. Lunaris grants physical damage reduction and movement speed based on nearby enemies. Solaris provides chance avoid projectiles and area damage. Each major god offers primary power and secondary upgrade, unlocked by defeating corresponding lesser god.

Minor gods, drawn from optional encounters throughout campaign, provide specialized utility. Shakari reduces poison duration. Ryslatha improves flask recovery. Abberath reduces burning ground damage. Tukohama improves life regeneration while stationary. These minor powers complement major choices, allowing fine-tuning defensive layers. Character vulnerable to elemental ailments might choose minor gods reducing duration and impact.

Soul collection mechanic adds replayability. Defeating god first time captures soul, but upgrading requires defeating again in higher difficulty. Each god has three tiers, unlocked by defeating in normal, cruel, merciless difficulties. This encourages revisiting campaign content even after reaching endgame, rewarding those completing full progression.

Pantheon choices matter because mutually exclusive. Only one major god and three minor gods active at any time. Changing Pantheon requires visiting shrine in town, consuming small currency amount. This friction encourages thoughtful selection but allows adaptation to different content. Build farming Shaper might choose different gods than one mapping corrupted zones.

Lore integration deserves mention. Each god defeated was once worshipped by Wraeclast's ancient civilizations. Their stories, told through item descriptions and environmental storytelling, flesh out world's history. Defeating them feels significant, continuation of eternal conflict between mortals and those who would be divine. Pantheon system gives mechanical weight to narrative events.

POE 3.28 Currency's Pantheon adds character customization layer rewarding exploration and completion. It turns mandatory bosses into permanent upgrades, giving purpose to content otherwise forgotten after leveling. The gods of Wraeclast are dead, but power endures, channeled through those strong enough claim it. Their souls rest within you now, gifts yours to command.
