Looks like it’s time to block out a bit of space on the calendar, because Path of Exile 2 is about to get its next big content drop. Grinding Gear Games has confirmed that patch 0.4.0, called The Last of the Druids, will finally bring the long-awaited Druid class into early access. You’ll catch all the details on their live stream set for December 4 at 11 AM PST, which works out to 7 PM GMT or 8 PM CET for those in Europe. The patch itself lands December 12, so there’s not much longer to wait. Oh, and if you’ve been meaning to test the game, this update comes with a free weekend from December 12–15 for PC and console, which makes it a perfect time to try it out. It’s a nice touch coming right after the game’s early access anniversary on December 6, 2023. Could be the perfect moment to grab some PoE 2 Items and dive in.
The Druid is the obvious headline here. It’s only the second new class since early access kicked off, following the Huntress that arrived back in patch 0.2.0. The last major update, 0.3.0, focused on reworking Support gems, opening up Act 4 of the story, and giving a short teaser for Act 5. Players were pretty stoked about that, but the absence of the Druid, which was supposed to be in 0.3.0, left folks wondering what was going on. The delay became a bit of a talking point with all sorts of theories flying around in the community.
Some fans have been holding onto the idea that GGG might try to make up for the delay by introducing two classes at once this time. Sounds fun, but realistically, it’s more likely they’ve been putting all their energy into making sure the Druid feels right from day one. When you think about how much work goes into new skills, equipment setups, and balancing, it’s easy to see why they’d want to give this thing room to breathe. And honestly, if it means a smoother launch for the class, it’s worth the wait.
Details beyond the Druid have been kept under wraps for now. Players keep wondering if this might be the patch where swords finally make their way into PoE 2, since that’s been another long-standing request. No confirmation yet, so it’s another reason to tune into the December 4 stream and see what’s cooking.
